1. What does each confinement meal consists of?
Our meals are recommended in accordance with HPB (Health Promotion Board) recommendation of 1 serving of Carb (rice or noodle), 1 serving of protein (fish or meat), 1 serving of vegetable, 1 flask of soup, 1 flask of 2L Confinement tea, not forgetting 1 serving of dessert or pastries to curb the constant hunger from breastfeeding.
2. How are your confinement meals served?
Our confinement meals will be served in a set of thermal tiffin consisting of 1 three tier warmer with 4 individual stainless-steel bowls. 1 thermal flask for soup and another 2L thermal flask for the confinement tea. These would be put in a thermal bag and it will be on loan to you daily for exchange during the delivery period. This also ensures that the food will be warm when it arrives at your doorstep, ready for immediate consumption without the need to reheat.
Note: Kindly hang the given thermal bag at the door with returned containers and flasks for drivers to do a 1-for-1 exchange at every meal delivery. Customer is responsible for the cleanliness, loss and damage of each thermal set. Do note that the last day meal delivery will be delivered to you in food grade, microwaveable and disposable containers.
3. Can I put the thermal containers into the microwave to reheat?
Please note that the Tiffin set is non-microwaveable, Any loss or damage will incur a charge of S$100 resulting from negligent use.
4. Do I need to wash the thermal containers and flasks?
We politely urged and request to empty all leftovers from the containers and flasks and give a gentle soap rinse to help us maintain a high level of hygiene to prevent any spoilage or contamination to happen.
5. Do I have to return the thermal containers and flasks?
We understand that you might not be able to finish your food in time, but you are welcome to transfer the balance food to your own utensils. Per set of tingkat should be completed with the following.
- 4 metal containers with 4 covers
- 1 soup flask
- 1 tea flask
- 1 plastic tiffin to hold all the 4 metal containers
- A golden colour thermal bag
Some have the cord for heating up, you may keep the cord till the end of your meals delivery.
6. Which menu do I begin with?
On the day of discharge, it would be regarded to Day 1, Week 1 menu onwards. Should you underwent Caesarean birth and would like to omit chicken or require any specific diet, please notify our team.

- Week one – Detoxification: Discharge of lochia, Uterine Recovery
- Week two – Repairing: Pelvis contraction, Milk Production, Strengthen Bones, Restore Hormones
- Week three – Condition the Body: Dispelling Wind, Relieving Pain and Restoring Blood
- Week four – Rejuvenation: Building Health, Body, Nourishment and Preventing Body from Aging.
7. Should I avoid chicken and eggs if I had a Caesarean procedure?
In the past, chicken and eggs are best avoided in the first 2 weeks of the confinement period for Caesarean birth mothers, as many believed that it slows down recovery, cause infection, itch or cause keloids. But in modern confinement in the guidance of TCM and our nutritionist, we advise a balance diet and protein being a very important factor to help recovery process. Should you wish to skip the first 2 weeks of chicken in the menu, do let us know, we are happy to omit from your confinement meals.
8. Does your confinement meal contain MSG?
At Shan Confinement, we believe through real food, it helps a more holistic recovery. We do not use MSG, soy sauce, salt and oyster sauces, keeping delicious and nutritious confinement food.
9. Is your confinement meal breastfeeding friendly?
Our TCM & Nutritionist approved dishes are lactation friendly using ingredients like tong cao in Chinese herbs, green papaya, salmon, spinach, broccoli, oats, fenugreek, brewer’s yeast and many more.
10. Do you use alcohol in your confinement meals?
We do use Chinese cooking wine, yellow glutinous rice in our confinement meals, but alcohol evaporates at around 75 Degrees Celsius, we simmer and cook these dishes at high temperatures to ensure evaporation. It is recommended to breastfeed 2 to 3 hours after consumption of confinement food containing alcohol.
However, should you have any alcohol allergy, you may like to request us to omit alcohol when you place your orders.
11. Can I request certain ingredients or dishes to be replaced from my meals?
Kindly advise us your dietary requirements and we will do our best to accommodate your requests. Our Chef will replace accordingly, based on available ingredients each day. Due to the seasonal nature of fresh ingredients, we reserve the right to change the menu without prior notice.
12. Are your confinement meals suitable for women recovering from miscarriage or post-surgery (etc IVF)?

13. Are you Halal certified?
Unfortunately we are not, as we serve pork dishes in our central kitchen.
14. Can I order the herbal soup on ala carte?
Yes, you can. Alternatively, you can mix and match your orders for desserts, coconut water subscription or birdnest subscription to meet the minimum order of $100. Should your orders are below $100, there will be a delivery charge of $8.
15. Are you birdnest safe for consumption during pregnancy?
Yes, our birdnest are of the highest quality Grade and has been certified by international standard of HACCP and HSA testing of Singapore. TCM also have a list of medical benefits of lung, stomach, kidney, it also promote the regeneration of internal organs and brain cells, and nourishes the human body.
